GRK has been selected to implement a substation project at the Kalkkimaa energy park in Tornio

GRK has signed an agreement with Oomi Solar Oy on the implementation of a 110/33 kV substation at the Kalkkimaa energy park in Tornio. Solar Polar Oy acts as the client for the energy park project, and Oomi Solar serves as the main contractor. The substation project will be implemented as a design and build contract, and its value for GRK is approximately EUR 1.4 million. The project will start with the design phase in late 2026, and the project is expected to be completed in early 2028.

The contract covers the design, delivery, installation, construction and commissioning of a 110/33 kV substation at the Kalkkimaa energy park. In the project, GRK will be fully responsible for the implementation of the substation, from the 110 kV line connection to the outgoing terminals of the 33 kV switchgear.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to implement this project for Oomi Solar. The cooperation with the client has got off to an excellent start right from the early stages of the project, and we are confident that our open and constructive interaction will create a strong foundation for the successful implementation of the project. We look forward to starting the construction phase and working together with the other operators involved in the construction of the Kalkkimaa energy park,” says Project Manager Antti Toppinen from GRK.

The earthworks are estimated to start in early summer 2027, followed by construction during the summer and autumn. The commissioning of the substation is expected to be completed by the end of November 2027, and the project’s handover to the client is expected to take place by the end of February 2028.

The substation at the Kalkkimaa energy park is a key part of the energy park as a whole. Coordinating the different phases of construction with other energy park construction activities will play a key role in the project, along with careful schedule management and anticipating component delivery times.

“The Kalkkimaa Energy Park is a significant project for Oomi Solar. It supports the growth of renewable energy production in Finland and strengthens our position as a developer and implementer of major energy investments. The substation plays a key role in the implementation of the entire energy park, and we are pleased to have GRK’s experienced project team involved in ensuring the successful delivery of the project,” says Harri Saapunki, Project Manager at Oomi Solar.
